Certified Irrigation Contractor

To become a successful Certified Irrigation Contractor you will be expected to be actively working in an irrigation contracting business, managing the installation process post-design. As a project supervisor you will have responsibility for how irrigation systems are installed and maintained, seeking to understand client needs. You will demonstrate current best practice in regards to irrigation installation, water use and irrigation and understand the regulatory operating environment in regards to water access and use. You can recognise and minimise the environmental impacts of irrigation.

Industry experience

On application, you will be actively working in the irrigation industry and already have 3 years relevant industry experience that include:

  • installing irrigation systems
  • operating irrigation systems
  • maintaining and troubleshooting irrigation systems
  • sampling and analysing soils
  • coordinating installation activities
  • preparing as-constructed drawings
  • operating equipment such as backhoes/loaders/graders and levelling equipment

Enrolment

You can start your course at any time - there are no semester or course date to wait for. There are two options for enrolment: Firstly you can fill out the enrolment form and post or fax back to RMT or you can fill out the online enrolment form.

Course units

This certification has been aligned with the national irrigation qualifications to provide a standard, accepted way to describe and recognise skills and knowledge. As a Certified Irrigation Contractor you will be able to prove that you can at least meet the requirements of the following 5 competencies:

  • RTE4602A Determine hydraulic parameters for an irrigation system
  • RTE4601A Acquire resources for irrigation installation and construction
  • RTE4606A Supervise onsite irrigation system installation and construction work
  • RTE4607A Plan onsite irrigation system installation and construction work
  • RTE3714A Maintain and monitor environmental work practices
