Certificate IV in Retail management

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in the
first line management skills of those working in the retail and/or wholesale industries. It
applies to those who are managing a small retail outlet, a section or department within a
larger retail store, a small wholesale outlet, or a section or department within a larger
wholesale business.

Learners who demonstrate competency in the competency standards within the Certificate IV in Retail Management will achieve the following vocational outcomes:

  1. Apply a broad range of techniques, technical knowledge and expertise in the performance of a broad range of tasks in a retail workplace
  2. Monitor the work performance of themselves and others
  3. Develop strategies to allocate resources for a broad range of tasks in a retail workplace
  4. Apply knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts within priorities, methods and procedures established by the retail employer/enterprise
  5. Choose and execute appropriate communication mediums which meet the needs of various target groups within a retail environment
  6. Manage and evaluate their own performance, and co-ordinate the work of teams
  7. Obtain and distill broad information from a variety of sources and convey relevant information to various target groups within a retail environment
  8. Apply Occupational Health and Safety and other regulatory codes relevant to the retail workplace

Length of study

The length of this course is 12 months full-time and 18 months part-time. (Approximately 10-20 hours should be given to complete each unit - depending on your subject knowledge and time spent on study sessions)
